My first WP show and I was impressed. Although the lyrics were very tough to decipher the heavy jamming was incredible. Blazing guitars all night long. Loved all of the sit ins too! Great double bill!!! I hope they do it again next summer.

glad y'all are diggin the Protein Drink > Sewing Machine! crazy song, pretty psychedelic.

here's a link to a huge version w/ Vic Chesnutt on vox from the infamous brute. show at the Tabernacle, 4/9/2002, a few months before Houser's passing. I was the album release party for brute.'s last album "Cobalt". and the second to last time I saw Mikey. Everyone was shocked at how skinny he'd become, and we knew something was truly wrong. If you ever want to hear WSP with lots of Deadish tones, this is a show to check out. Pour me another one Mikey... - Vic Chesnutt

http://www.panicstream.com/nonwsp.htm

here's the lyrics:

Protein Drink
(Vic Chesnutt)

Protein drink on a flat sink, ice on the old window
Kitchen light just isn't right I need full spectrum

Cornfield is post yield
Creek froze
Lake effect snows
And a mushroom that was so very very nasty in my mouth
And a mushroom that was so very very nasty in my mouth

I will graze Akron tomorrow
But today I'm staying put
Now, my mood could use a little saccharine
But soon I'll be light of foot
Lighter fluid
Lighter fluid
Lighter fluid
Lighter fluid

You're in Santa Monica on a numbered street
I'll be on a salty highway burning up a lucky streak

Sewing Machine
(Vic Chesnutt)

Suck in your gut, clench your fist
You just finished scaling a big black fish
On a bench out behind the tool shack
In a patch of poison sumac

Mama ordered us some catalogue jeans
She made the cuffs on the sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine

Granny wrote a letter up under table lamp
Said her thumbs hurt 'cause all the beans she had to snap
I lay on the porch looking through the cracks
See the dog asleep and watch those ugly chickens scratch

The prom is coming big sister should be a queen
Mama makes a dress on the sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine

Daddy is asleep he's just home from work
In his comfy chair in his yellowed undershirt
Sister is sad she just got the curse
I am fairly happy cause my go-cart kinda works

I want to be a vampire for the Halloween
Mama makes a cape on the sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine
Sewing machine

They have great lyrics so I recommend you listen to some of the studio releases where they can be easily understood.

JB might not be the best singer from a "euphonic" standpoint, but he more than makes up for it with the heart and soul he pours into it. Whatever he sings, he really means it. Listen to a song like "Pilgrims".....Pure raw emotion and quite a beautiful song.

So did Dave Schools stay on stage when Oteil was guest or did he walk off?

I can't begin to understand how awesome it would be to have both on stage!
