Ok, quick to the point.

This Piedmont Park event with Dave Matthews Band is a "Green Concert". Supposedly they are encouraging leaving the car at home rather than driving to the Park.

How the hell? I'm not driving all the way there to hop a MARTA.

Anyone else heard about this? What are we supposed to do?

Sorry for my first post being such a dumb question.

I think they're calling it a green concert mostly because there really is no parking nearby. I'm thinking with all afternoon available, I can find a lot somewhere west of Peachtree, maybe on W Peachtree or Spring Street and hoof it. If that fails, drive downtown, park there and hop the MARTA north. The trains should be ok before the show, but after, expect crowds. Southbound afterward might be a bit less crowded.

THANKS SO MUCH! I am really not familiar with the area, but I'm sure with your advice we can figure something out. I'm glad you mentioned street names and even the tip on heading Southbound afterwards.

I don't care how we get there...as long as we do!! Right?

Another Q

Anyone else got presale tix and going in early? It's an hour admin before GA, but how early are yall getting to the Park? Can you hang out there even earlier? We'd love to get there earlier in the day and maybe have a picnic beforehand. Anyone want to meet up there let me know. We can share a sandwich.

I think 3 is as early as they will let you into the concert area on the presale tix, but there should be plenty of unrestricted park for your picnic. It's a little early to talk specifics, but other HTW members may be gathering. Check in a couple weeks before the show. Larry, thanks for the map.

Thanks for the map. I had not seen the one showing the venue with the VIP portion. Wow. It seems that the ONLY plus of the VIP section would be the ever flowing Bud and a nice place to pee.

I'll be tickled with my happy tail somewhere closer to the stage.

It is early to talk specifics. I wish it was tomorrow instead of September!! LOL!

Larry's post indicates the rules, including no backpacks, that's a bummer, though we have had a problem w/ backpacks at concerts staged in parks here. And no recording, do they mean that?! And the no cooler rule as always.

The scoop on Piedmont Park. The Midtown Marta station is the one to use. It's about 6 blocks from the park. Exit the station and walk east.Midtown station is on the north south line. Try to use that line as the east west line requires a change of trains. There is little or no parking at most Marta Stations.I recommend using a station north of Midtown Station as the ones to the south can be pretty scary at 11 pm.My top 3 picks in no order. Lindberg Station off Piedmont Road has a decent parking lot and is my fave if you can get a space. Perimeter Mall Station has a large parking deck. If the deck is full the mall security frowns on people
parking in the mall lots. Be descrete if you find the deck full and decide to use the mall lot. You might get towed.Lenox Station is next to Lenox Square Mall which has a large parking lot.The Station itself has no parking so park and walk through the mall and then hit the station. If you want to drive and park near the park it is possible but you are still going to have a long walk unless you get lucky.I know some will get mad at me for providing this info but it is the reality of the situation. The residential neighborhood to the south of Tenth Street has on street parking if you are lucky enough to find an empty space.Don't block a drive or hydrant. I don'r recomend this strategy but in the intrest of full disclosure i'm putting the info out there. There are some pay lots around Tenth and Peachtree Streets .One is located behind the Jocks and Jills Sports Bar at tenth and P-Tree.Get there early and you might get a space.Early arrival is the key to whatever strategy you choose. The area around the park will be a mess before the concert and the police will probably close Tenth street to vehicles east of Piedmont Road creating a major cluster ----.
If you have time get there early, have dinner at a local eatery or walk around the park. One last thing, DONT DRIVE WITH A BLOOD ALCOHOL LIMIT OVER .08. The Atlanta jail is not a place you want to visit. Enjoy "Hot Lanta" and be safe.

hmmm, "no tickets available" according to ticketmaster. Interesting.
I'm wondering if they are going to close 10th Street too, seems like
there would be a lot of traffic right behind the stage otherwise.

Ok thanks for all this transportation information. I just found out that my friends Blueground Undergrass will play 550 Blues in Macon that evening so I will leave the concert shortly after the ABB and try to get to Maconga ASAP before they start playing around 10PM.

At least I have plenty of time to figure out different plans as to how I am going to do this. I think I better have several ideas.

How much time do you think it will take to get everyone into the concert area? How many gates do you think they will have and do you think they will scan all the tickets???

Those entrances posted are paved entrances to the park, not to the concert!!! You can enter the park anywhere along 10th or Piedmont Ave. The park is huge; the concert is only in one portion of it: across from Grady HS, at the intersection of 10th & Monroe.

Go to maps.google and put in 10th St & Monroe Dr., Atlanta, GA, then click on the "Hybrid" button. The "roads" you see inside the area bounded by Piedmont, 10th, Park Dr., and Monroe are not open to vehicle traffic. They are now the main walkways thru the park. The Charles Allen entrance is closest, and it drops down a hill to where the concert are is. It's a nice bowl. There used to be a huge drainage ditch running down the middle of the concert field. you can kinda still see it in the google pic. thank goodness they covered that up and made the park what it is today.

I was surprised the Conservancy put up the maps of stage location and VIP areas so soon. Thanks!! Cannot wait for this event, it's gonna be a BLAST!!!!!!!!
