The Mule will be peddling its wares this Saturday in Lexington. Will anyone else here attend the show besides me and chadwick?

EVERYONE should come to this show...ok so maybe its just because its being held at my school so you coming means more money for the school. But I was wondering as well if anyone was coming down. It should be a really crazy weekend down here since its the 100th anniversery of our Mock Convention. I hope some people can come down and check out the show.

Cool. Hopefully I'm going to be doing load in/load out and possibly other work, so while in some ways I hope I'm out there with you guys...I kind of hope I won't be.

http://mockcon.wlu.edu/ there is a link for the entire festival and you can buy tickets at http://www.wandl.musictoday.com/WashingtonandLeeUniversity/calendar.aspx

We'll be making our way down from Philly for this.

Chadwick - What's the venue like? Indoor/Outdoor? Where is it on campus? We're staying at the Hampton Inn down the road and hope to be able to walk it.

Thanks!

The venue is indoor and not the most impressive place ever. Its indoor and basically a big metal barn...I guess is the best way to describe it, but last show there wasn't any echoing or anything, it sounded pretty good. It has a cement floor is all general admission. There will be a beer garden, as indicated on the website, so those of you over 21 can drink...those of you who aren't can just pre game. Last show security wasn't too strict. I think they'd occasionally ask to open bags, but wouldn't look thorougly, and that'd be about all. Throughout the actual floor there are some (i think hired students) up front, but no real secutirty presence.

As for walking from the Hampton Inn I'm afraid it might be a long walk. The pavillion is in the far corner of campus...far from everything and anything (except a tennis center). If i remember correctly the Hampton Inn is the really nice hotel 3 or 4 minutes (walking distance) down the road from a group of fraternity houses, mine included. From there you'll have an 8 or 9 minute walk to campus, which goes straight through historic down town...then you'll be on campus, and then there's a good 15-20 minute walk (which i will have to make as well) to the pavillion...I've only made that last walk twice or so so I'm not sure of the length. I guess that isn't too far, it just seems forever for me because my farthest class is about 7 minutes away. So from the hampton in you'd basically walk through town, to campus, then across campus...but not really, you just pass athletic fields and stuff. If you drive you just go down nelson st., the road the hampton is on, make a right where there's a big sign and go down that lane for awhile until you see a big random building that is the pavillion.

I hope that helps a little bit for that. As for helping out. The show is sponsored by the GAB and the Mock Con...organization i guess is what they are. I'm on the GAB and helped with the Disco Biscuits show...so I got the guy's name doing this show, emailed him and said they need help, so I'm going to help move in equipment...hang out for the sound check and everything...hopefully meet warren and not flip out with excitement. it worked out well i guess

eh i've been thinking about the walk from the hampton...and the walk from the fraternity houses really wouldn't be that bad, kids do that a good bit, so the hampton probably wouldn't be much worse

Thank you for the info Chadwick - very helpful. Sounds like the Mule will blow the roof off that place, literally!

I don't mind the walk either. From what I've read it's a nice area anyway so I'm sure the trek will be enjoyable. Maybe even stop at a fraternity for a keg stand or two. Which one do you belong to?

Thanks again and enjoy setting-up. I may try to head up early for the sound check too.

http://newsoffice.wlu.edu/PrintmapNew.pdf

here is a map of the campus. The Hampton Inn is on Nelson street, below the campus on this map, if you look you'll see Nelson St. I'm in Sigma Phi Epsilon, or SigEp and our house is on Nelson St. between the Hampton Inn and campus. On your way over you'll pass a number of fraternity houses. When you get to campus you will want to go to number 56, the student activities pavillion, its in the upper right hand corner. The best way to go is to go over to washington st., which runs right through town as well, then right before the sharp turn there around 19, there is a path that goes up in front of our gym, over that bridge that goes over tennis courts, to the left of the track, up past more tennis courts. From there its kind of a toss up, but its probably easiest to go up to the parking and right onto West Denny. I'm really bored/trying to get away from work so I figured I'd give you some directions. The walk to campus goes through historic lexington and is nice. The entire area is. If you're into Confederate History we have Lee Chapel, the location of Robert E. Lee's body. A number of our buildings are historic landmarks, Stonewall Jackson's house is in town as well as his grave. I hope you enjoy your trip to Lexington, let me know if you have any more questions or if those directions don't make sense. Of coures you can just follow the roads, but that is out of the way...

Great info, and appreciated!

See you there! I'll be picking up my friend in Baltimore at the airport at noonish, then heading straight down! Any decent restaurants / pubs nearby? Being a college town, I'm sure there are plenty...just looking for a recommendation?

Peace.

There is a surprsingly small number of places to eat in Lexington...kids don't do much in the town on the weekends, in terms of bars or anything. There is one place right next to campus at the intersection of Nelson St. and Jefferson St. called The Palms that has decent food and a pretty good bar/restaurant atmosphere. Down Jefferson St. about 100 yards is Salernos, a good sub shop. There are also a lot of fancy restaurants, like the southern inn or Cafe Michel. On Nelson St. past the Hampton away from campus there is a Don Tequilas (i think) and some other places. Lexington is really not much of a town I guess outside of the historic appeal. Despite being a college town there isn't a lot of stuff around...except for fraternity and off campus houses. There are other places to eat right off the exit from 64 and around town, but nothing too appealing for a pre show dinner. From Baltimore its about 3 1/2 hours...not too bad. I'm from Harford County, which is just north east of baltimore, so I've made that drive a good number of times.

Heyy sorry about the delay, I don't have class tomorrow so I've been out and about. Parking should not be an issue. We have a lot of empty space over on that end of campus that is flat enough for parking. As for pre show atmosphere it should be pretty relaxed. Security at our school is typically pretty leniant and won't bother you unless you give them a reason, or that's how I see it. I guess the only issue is for this show it will still be light, but still there should be a lot of people around and as long as you blend it its not an issue. If people show up, which I assume they will, there will probably be stuff going on in the parking lot...there was before the disco biscuits show, and they aren't nearly as good (in my opinion). So you guys should be good.

A tip of the hat to R.E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, both buried in Lexington. A small town with a ton of history.

Lemons over the fence. Semper.

Ah I can't wait...I've spent all day setting up lights, sound equipment, working on Matt Abt's drums, and hanging out with Brian Farmer...The entire day is like a dream come true...and its just going to make tonight even better. Gotta shower and get back for when the band shows up and the sound check! I'll check back in tomorrow after everything.

Wow...I'm not going to get into details really, but I'll just say this was one of the greatest das of my life. I ended up working 9:30am-2:30am, but it was totally worth it. I got to meet everyone in the band, spent a lot of time hanging out with the crew, and only had great experiences with any of them. The show they put on was absolutely awesome. They were on fire and going crazy. Watching most of the show from the side of the stage didn't provide for the best view of Warren, but was a unique and amazing. The little things that went on between the crew and the band that you experience back there are just fantastic...its a new world really. I'm sure some people have experienced it, but I hadn't and it was great.

The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys was perhaps the highlight of the night for me. Always one of my favorite songs, and they absolutely tore it up. There were some other great moments, that song just stuck out from other mule shows. Overall one of my favorite mule shows I've seen. I like Rocking Horse with Mule a lot more than with the Allman Brothers(which I don't really like...their version of rocking horse, not the band), despite the awesome melody line after the solos where derek and warren both play lead.

So yeah, it was nice to meet everyone, sean, mudflapgirl (sorry for not remembering your name I'm terrible with them), and angela. I hope you all enjoyed the show as much as I did.

and oh yeha, the drum solo was the best I've ever seen by Matt
