Hadn't heard any more about it lately. Is it still for sale, sold, going to be torn down, or what?

I believe that it was sold. Most likely the last year for Deer Creek.

Hi BigDave, I live 50 miles nw of Deer Creek and have not heard anything final yet. As far as I know it's still for sale...sad though, I'm hoping to catch one good last show sometime later this year. They had originally said that they figured this would be the last year in operation for Verizon Wireless (current owner).
Time will tell. Seen a helluva lot of good shows there, but unfortunatley never got to see ABB there. 3 or 4 years in a row back in the late 90's they would play a date there and every friggin' time, my band had a gig somewhere in bumfuk. Me and my (then) bass player would always threaten to quit that band so we could go see the Bro's! Oh well.

Hey Dave

I live about 10 miles away from Verizon here in Cicero and have not heard of anything yet. The are planning a full schedule this summer. It's a shame.
There is a smaller venue downtown Indy called "The Lawn" which holds about 6,000.
I have seen the ABB,Crowes,Ben Harper and some others. It's pretty cool...but we still need a big venue. I heard if Verizon sells to someone who wants to level it,Carmel wants to put something up, but thats just rumour.

Wow, whatta shame.

I saw the GD there 90-95, never missed them there after I discovered the place in 1990. I remember reading it was one of the top five amphitheatres in North America... I certainly loved seeing Jerry there, it was my favourite place to see the Dead, bar none.

Unlike great indoor venues like MSG and Boston Gardens, the sound is excellent in most spots and the band always seemed to play well there. THe 1990 shows in particular are awesome, with great sound..check out the sbds if you ever see them, they're keepers.

The 1995 show there broke my heart... I was one of the first people to start booing the fence jumpers, and I got really loud about it despite getting some dirty looks and then suddenly the fence started to sway and then others around me started booing...but it was too late by then, the fence started to fall.

My worst Dead show experience at my favourite venue....figures, eh?

I knew a really cool dude there, Paul B and every year he had a huge party when the Dead were in town, with tons of people staying there, trading DAT copies and hanging out in his homemade hot tub....it was unreal.

I hope Deer Creek continues to host great concerts, because it's definitely the best sounding amphitheatre of it's size that I've ever heard.

I also saw the Dead there everyime they came from 90-95,so it has a fond remeberance in my heart as well.
I was also inside when the gates came crashing down in 95.......that was a sad way to end the REAL Grateful Dead's run at Deercreek!
I heard that it was officially sold & this was the last year for Deercreek.....but maybe a MIRACLE may happen!
