GOV'T MULE W/ DAVE MATTHEWS
In addition to some June headlining dates Gov't Mule will be performing a few shows with The Dave Matthews Band during the summer. The Mule will be open the shows on 7/29 in Hartford, CT (New England Dodge Music Center), 8/1 in Cincinnati, OH (The Riverbend), 8/2 in Cleveland, OH (The Blossom) and 8/5 in New York City (Randalls Island). Tickets can be requested through The Warehouse (The Dave Matthews Band Fan Association) starting 7PM Eastern on Thursday March 2nd. Public On-Sale Info to be announced shortly.

I'm damn excited - I'll be going to the show at Randall's Island for sure. Bela Fleck and the Fleck Tones are also playing both nights at Randall's Island - should be awesome.

exactly, Pam...and given the other dates that were just released on mule.net, my guess is they'll be only hitting the Hartford area for that one DMB gig....as decently as Mule draw around here, they'll never play here twice in two months.

oh, well....a Muleless summer is nothing new...hopefully the Allmans dont tour too late in the summer.

I agree with you Pam - GM is what I would consider my favorite band - but Dave and Warren are friends, and I'm certain Warren will play with Dave during his set. The upside is that GM will get a good bit of exposure. Didn't Warren play with Dave during his Central Park show?

Yes he did. I really like DMB, although I know a lot of people around here absolutely hate them

I like the group a lot, I don't like Dave. Just got way too poppy for my senses, just my opinion though.

This is as bad as the Mule opening for Kid Rock a couple of years ago!

I don't think it's that bad, besides it's GMs choice, they aren't being forced.

I think it is great way for the Mule to gain some more exposure. A nice fit for the DMB audience.

Everyone is right that the Mule is no opening band, but that is exactly why they (and Warren) are so special. It's about delivering the music to many with no ego or pretentiousness.

I also want to add that I may try to see DMB this year for the first time. Didn't like the band after the first album and didn't give them a chance again until someone gave me "Busted Stuff". Wow. That is a great album.

I don't have a problem with DMB, but GM is in a league of their own. They're a headliner. The only time it should be acceptable for GM to open is if they're playing on a bill with ABB...like WaneeFest.

Mule is on the verge of really getting a much larger fan base; this is marketing to step in that direction. There's nothing wrong with that. Be happy they're out playing!

Dave Matthews' right hand man is ATO's boss...Mule's label. I wouldnt put it past someone to slip something into a contract here and there about shows like this.

I'd rather see them open for Kid Rock...as phony as he may be, at least his fans appreciate decent music. DMB is nothing but a joke these days.

From your mouth to God's ears.

I'm gonna add an addendum here, I agree, at least they are out playing. And Warren and the band did have a sizeable amount of time off, which is a good thing. I personally am not thrilled about them opening for the DMB, but I will probably get to one of the shows. The DMB aren't a bad band. They have some good material and Dave has always supported Warren and the Mule, so four dates or so is not a real biggie. At least I don't think so in the scheme of things.

The Mule opened for DMB a couple of years ago (I thought they had moved beyond that) and we went to see the show at the Pepsi Center (indoors) in Denver. Two things of note: the DMB fans did not seem into the Mule at all and Warren did not play with DMB at all. The Mule show started before an almost empty arena and the fans coming in during the show made a lot of noise.
definately not my favorite way to see them. On the other hand, I only like DMB live.

Stand up was poppy but I could make a page long list of songs he has written that aren't poppy. Listen to their first three albums and tell me that's pop? Good luck

Yeah Kid Rock is better. Please, he spends more time with his hand grabbing his croch then he does singing, or whatever he does?? This is coming from someone who used to be a huge fan but they are nothing in the studio w/out Steve Lillywhite. Simple as that. their fans booed them last year during their tour b/c of their album. We'll see if it shakes them up. They

Hah! Whatever bro. I actually enjoyed early Dave. The scene got screwed up, and the new tunes just got way too non-DMB for me. I hate how kids go just to be there, and not for the music. That is the biggest buzz kill for me.

AMEN Mike. I agree with you 100%. You don't see too many frat boys in sweater vests at ABB shows.

Even if you do... you kinda just laugh and say "did you miss the Dave wagon?"... I think Dave has an outstanding group, and yes, he's an outstanding player... but when you make him out to be the greatest thing since koolaid, we've got problems

I can add just a little bit of none sense. Mule has found a nice niche. The music is sounding great and the fan base seems very pleased. I would hate for Mule to change their sound to target fans of DMB or other mainstream acts. I wonder if the new album has any songs that sounds like OAR or DMB.

I am p!ssed off!

And in MY Cincinnati area,too!
I have been a big fan of Warren & the Mule for way over a decade,now......& I probably won't even go to my home area show, unless I win tickets!
I don't want to watch govt mule play a "greatest hits" collection for 45 minutes & then listen to the DMB play for an hour & a half a bunch of wussy songs that ALL sound the same w/ different lyrics!(And I HATE DM overrated "twangy" voice!)

Govt Mule opening for DMB is like Led Zeppelin opening for Air Supply!!
This REALLY sucks!!

have you seen a Kid Rock show? Something tells me no, but I've been wrong before...Bob Ritchie has more talent in his left testicle than Dave Matthews has in his entire body...Kid Rock sings, plays guitar, plays bass, plays keyboards, plays drums, and can spin records. Dave Matthews, while a decent guitar player, is nowhere near what he claims to be. Sure, he can play some funky chords on that accoustic guitar, but thats about it. His band is the talent. Yeah, Bob is an image...but there's talent behind it.
