Hey guys. I'd really like to take on the task of building my own guitar. I've noticed lately that there have been alot of SRV Number One replica strats on Ebay. I've thought about how fun it would be to build one and i know i could get the parts EXCEPT i have no clue where I would get the worn out, aged body from. Any one know of any places or have any ideas? Thanks

Tom

Tom, Stewart MacDonald has probably what you're looking for in the way of strat bodies, necks, etc. You would buy new bodies and make them appear worn out. Not by buying some kind of old stock. I forget what Fender calls the guitars that they make that appear well worn but they are cosmetically made to appear thet way. Similar to the way that dude in the jeans commercial making a duplicate pair of jeans to give his girlfriend. First make the guitar and finish it like new then buff or sand select parts of the guitar to make them appear well worn. You can let me borrow it and I'll hang it up in the smoking break room at work. It'll look vintage in about a month. Lol! Personally the only thing I find more ridiculous than Fender purposely building a wore out guitar are the folks that buy 'em. Again just my .02.

Haha. Thanks for the advice and all. And I've already got a couple real nice guitars...and I just thought it would be fun to have one to mess around with that was like one of my favorite guitarists. Any one else got any ideas on where i could get one from?

Tom

I bought a beat up mexican sunburst for $150...I got a black pickguard,SRV/"CUSTOM" decals ,got a late 50s style Fender headstock logo, and an SRV signature decal(personal addition)

Gotta pretty much distress your own guitar, I believe the buzz word now is "relic"

it's gonna be scary to do, I only get one chance....but the guitar is beat to hell and back anyway...I'll post before and after pix

SRV nerds will be able to tell that its' not a 57/62, and the trem won't be left handed, but I'm also going for cheap.

Yeah, doesn't that remind you of prewashed and ripped blue jeans?
I don't mind used, but part of making a guitar your own is the wear you put on it.

Stevie's guitar earned all those scrapes and dings honestly.

If you want to see the ultimate 'prewashed' guitar, check out the new Jeff Beck Esquire in Fender's latest catalogue.

I saw a really nice SRV Strat replica on eBay once. It was VERY nicely done. All the hardware was aged, the rainbow lettering was correct, the left handed trem, all the relicing of the finish off of the body. I seem to rememeber a $1500 starting bid, or maybe that was the BIN price.
