Congratulations! I felt the same way when my daughter (now 13) was enrolled in the DeKalb County Magnet Program for High Achievers.

Good luck to you and your daughter!

Congratulations. When a child makes you proud in a big way like this, it makes any "dissapointed moments" they may have given you, seem so trivial.

My 18 yr. old son is section leader of the snare drum section of his high school marching band, and low and behold we've advanced this season to the state finals this Saturday night! Very proud of him and the other 159 kids in the Jefferson High School Marching Bronchos! It's a great accomplishment; extremely tough competition.

Congrats on the accomplishmenst in your family, wich also reflect very well on you and your accomplishments in overcoming and persevering. Kids are such a wonderful blessing. Lots of work and effort, but so worth it over the course of time. Best thing the wife and I ever did!

Thank you!
It will eventually air on the local PBS out of Indianapolis; probably around the end of the year. In the past years, I think it's been televised on New Years Day.

Big congratulations, Renee! (Also to you others with great kids!) This is great confirmation of your strength as a mother and the good direction you've been providing.

Just yesterday I was talking with a foreign student at the local university, someone I've known for a few months as being exceptionally bright and hard working. It surprised me to learn yesterday that neither of her parents had more than 3 years of formal education! Nevertheless, even when they couldn't help her with her homework anymore, they sure knew what to do to encourage their daughter, to show her the value of persistence, and to bring out the best in her.

y'all giving me way too much credit. she is just a very smart little girl. if y'all could meet me in person, you'd see what i mean. i got common sense plenty, but book learning goes so far over my head i don't even get the wind off of it. we have a routine in the afternoons when we get home. we sit down together and she learns me what she is doing in school and i try to do it. when i get it wrong, she corrects me and we do it right. PR let me know when your son's band is going to be on television and tell me which one he is. i want my daughter to see where she can go with good work ethic and the right motivation. i tell her all the time that the only limit she's got is the ones she puts on herself. and that boys have cooties.
