Swarm of Moths Rush Stage at Weird Al Show

Sep 3, 6:20 PM (ET)

DU QUOIN, Illinois (AP) - Things got hairy for parody singer "Weird Al" Yankovic as a flock of unwanted fans rushed onstage during his performance at a state fair in southern Illinois.

Green moths swarmed Yankovic, some nesting in his trademark long curly locks.

"My band asked me if I could find a concert where we would be attacked by insects," Yankovic told his audience Wednesday at the Du Quoin State Fair. "I said I would see what I could do."

Yankovic didn't seem bugged by the uninvited guests, though, as he plugged along with songs and costume changes during his self-described "rock and comedy multimedia extravaganza" to support his recent album, "Poodle Hat."

too funny!

Say what you want about Weird Al...but, he has had a very long and successfull career. I saw on TV one time that almost all his records have gone platinum.

Not to shabby!

At my family reunion 3 weeks ago, I was suprised to hear three of the teens start riffing on Weird Al stuff! The 16- and 17-year-olds (girl and boy) seem to have gotten over their earlier enthusiasm for him, but the 13-y.o. (girl) still likes him a lot. Too bad Weird Al falls the way of all boy bands once his fans get older!

Purists would say his best work was before he went electric. When it was just Al and the accordion, it was the music that mattered. Songs like 'Another One Rides The Bus', 'Its Still Billy Joel to Me' and 'My Bologna'; true classics. Then he went on MTV......

I'd say his fan base is the definition of a cult following. He'll continue to make a living doing what he's doing just as long as he wants to. Enough people want this product to support it, so why not? It's honest work.

Having grown up a bit of a Weird Al fan, I think that his success is well deserved. He is regarded as a music genius, of sorts, from all kinds of famous musicians. He is very in tune to the popular music of the day, whether bad or good, and makes his living off of having fun. Anyone who disputes that is truly jealous. Look at the way that jackass Coolio erupted against him in the early 90's! If that isn't a guy who is simply money hungry, I don't know who is! Keep up the good work Al, green moths or not!

This isn't exactly a talent.

Well first, I didn't say it was a talent, I said it was how he had fun. I used that to discourage any thought that might arise that he is an old forotten has been. The Coolio comment was about Coolio's eruption at Weird Al after Coolio's management gave the ok for Al to parody Gangsters Paradise into Amish Paradise. I won't go into the details, I'm sure you can find something online.

True- and Al didn't cancel any shows but did ask folks to not bug him afterwards as he wasn't feeling up to it. I find it very professional, not to stiff your fans in a time of personal suffering

During the Fox playoff and World Series broadcasts, I saw a political attack ad that was so strange it was funny. Democrat State Rep Bob Flider of nearby Decatur, IL, is being challenged by Republican Scot England. Flider was running ads whose verbal substance was basically just calling former TV broadcaster England a "clown" and so on. The main graphic was Weird Al Yankovic's face morphing into England's, but keeping Weird Al's hair, since their faces, mustaches, and glasses are very similar. There was also a graphic where there was Weird Al's hair but with the face first a gray silhouette, which was then filled with England's face under that hair! The voiceover even made the comparison explicit by using the name "Weird Al Yankovic"! This went on for 30 seconds.

I saw this ad about five times, but Flider seems to have pulled it by Game 3 of the Series. Highbrow entertainment!
