While they don't broadcast it, there are clues. Warren covers Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" and his Gov't Mule does a blues cruise to Jamaica, for example -

Dunno if Derek still does but I know he used to. He talked about it in a High Times article about...6 years ago.

this is a public forum, and pot is still not legal.

that fact that you've had to ask, should let you know these guys do not smoke pot or if they do they choose to keep it private.

i have no problem with what warren and derek do or not do, just think it should be kept private.

And uh, Slow Happy Boys, and uh, Let's Go Get Stoned, and uh, how 'bout the whole "Mighty High" deal followed by get-togethers in Jamaica... all signs point to YES, but it's a good thing. It's NORML!

There is nothing to be ashamed of. They smoke. I smoke. It's a natural thing and there is nothing wrong with it. It's my right.

Kudos to them for not being afraid to be open about it.

. “All of my idols were weed-smokers, from Louis Armstrong on down,” Trucks offers. “Everyone in the band has definitely read up quite a bit about the subject. It’s ridiculous how little they [the government] understand about it and how much of a campaign they’ve built up against it. In my hometown of Jacksonville [Florida], people are getting locked up for simple marijuana possession. If you’re going to have booze legal, there’s no point in making marijuana smoking a criminal act. If they’re going to take a legal stand, they should be able to prove it’s bad for you, but they haven’t been able to do that.

“We do some Bob Marley covers, which sort of touches on the subject,” Trucks adds, “but we don’t do overt songs about weed because we don’t want people to come just for that. We want them to come for the music.”

Not to start a problem, but I have to ask how smoking is your right? Even if you think it's a stupid law, it's not your right to break it.

Edit: Right as I click Post Reply, Black Sabbath's Snowblind plays on my iTunes. Fitting.

It’s just the way I feel. I respect your opinion too.

Laws that are unjust are made to be broken or changed. All these laws are in the process of being changed. Have you seen the recent polls that put over 80% of Americans in favor of legalizing medical marijuana?

Yes, but polls don't mean anything because the public don't pass the laws. And either way, medical marijuana isn't the same as recreational marijuana so even if medical marijuana is made legal, any Joe Schmoe standing on the corner with a joint is still breaking the law.

George Washington would be shocked to learn that 200 years after he founded this country as a beacon of liberty and free thought, some citizens think you need the government's permission to smoke a natural herb that humans have been using safely since the beginning of recorded histoory, while others are so nervous about the subject that they don't even think it should be discussed in public, lest the All-Seeing Eye of Big Brother swoop down and nab you for committing a thoughtcrime.

You see, the Father of our Country was quite the hemp enthusiast. He even gave specific instructions to his gardener to separate male and female hemp lants at Mt. Vernon. This has nothing to do with raising hemp for rope, paper, or other industrial uses, but it is vitally necessary if you are growing high-quality cannabis for smoking.

Heck, our first President even wrote chatty letters to his friends ruminating on the relative quality of different hemp strains. Appararently he preferred Indian hemp to other kinds, in much the same way a modern-day stoner might say "That OG Kush is pretty good, but Super Skunk is the best."

Don't take my word for it. Type "George Washington hemp quotes" into your favorite search engine and you might be surprised by what you learn.

Oh, do they smoke? I thought you were going to ask something else. I was prepared to answer no, they're just friends.

While i support legalization, the notion that weed is needed to unleash creativity, especially in someone as talented and creative as Derek, makes me sick.
