A lot of Ronnie James Dio's music this week. Last night was some Sabbath Live from Hammersmith Odeon.
I didn't love how he growled some of the Ozzy-era tunes, but he consistently nailed Children of the Grave and NIB. Plus, I've had his version on Sweet Leaf from another show in rotation this week along with Mob Rules and some other live stuff off youtube.
A couple of weeks ago I was all about some of the new Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeschi tunes - Don't Drift Away, Midnight in Harlem, Woman's Got to Have It (cover), Too Late, Nobody's Free.
Week before that, I was in a Jason Isbell mood - playing his two great solo records a number of times.
As you can see, I go in cycles. ____________________ Tim L. |

I felt like some sweet female voices in my house this morning so I put the following five discs in and hit "random":
1. Susan Tedeschi, "Hope and Desire"
2. Lucinda Williams, "Car Wheels on A Gravel Road"
3. Sheryl Crow, "Tuesday Night Music Club"
4. Alanis Morissette, "Jagged Little Pill Acoustic" (my brother Jason Orme plays guitar)
5. Artemesia Black, "Alternative Gothic Swamp Lullabies". She's a Bay area local and that's not her real name. Very sweet morning music. ____________________ Don't let the sounds of your own wheels

I can’t seem to get enough of the first set of the latest Dead release, Crimson White and Indigo, particularly the Brent tunes, or Brent infused tunes like Little Red Rooster…the Blow Away is out of control. He seems to have the whole audience at his command during Blow Away. There is no obligatory Samson and Delilah for the closing of RFK Stadium on this night, but the Blow Away is very apropos.
Also been listening to Paul Simon’s Graceland quite a bit lately.

Black Crowes - After the Freeze (or whatever the bonus tracks included with their newest disc is called). Before the Frost and After the Freeze is bloody good stuff.
I had a Joni Mitchell Greatest hits CD in prior to this. Also good stuff! |
