if you dig Bob Marley, you should check out Burning Spear. as the story goes...

Reggae artist Burning Spear (a.k.a. Winston Rodney) says his musical career started to take off when he ran into a young Bob Marley in a field in Jamaica. Marley told him to head over to the Studio One recording studio, and the rest is history.

"Bob was traveling with a donkey and all these various plants," explained Burning Spear in a statement. "Bob was young, dreadlocks just start to spring. I was asking Bob how I could get started and where could I go to get that start. He asked me if I know Studio One."

he's playing New Haven, Providence, & Baltimore 9/4-6, and several dates out in Colorado 9/17-19, omaha 9/20, Vancouver, BC 9/27, and SanFran 9/29-30. GO CHECK HIM OUT IF YOU LIVE NEAR ONE OF THESE DATES. YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY. The music is very powerful, and when Spear get Burning, they are really laying it down. One song segues into the next. Fantastic band, lots of groove.

some good records are "Hail H.I.M." & "Marcus Garvey" ("Garvey's Ghost" is the dub version of the Marcus Garvey album), or the live concert from Langerado.

Some say he is a prophet. Everytime I'm in his presence, it exalts my soul. If you've ever pined to experience a Bob Marley concert, this is who you can go see right now.

Jah Rastafari, love reggae it really gets under my skin it's organic music, I used to live in Miami where The Spear, Mighty Diamonds, Steel Pulse, Third World, etc. were regulars, lots of ganja, good vibes ,etc. Check out King Tubby or Augustus Pablo amazing musicians. Unfortunately I don't think there's many reggae fans on this site, too bad.

Just caught the Spear on Sunday night in NYC. Wow... was a smokin' show. Played from 10:45 until 1:30a with a small break. An 'Evening With' no less, so no warmup, etc. Great mix of crowd too.... definitely would recommend checking him out.

The Spear is hot. Red hot.

Maybe you meant "dude" but Lucky Dube was one of the best:

LUCKY DUBE’S RECORD LABEL, GALLO, MOURNS HIS TRAGIC LOSS

The staff of Gallo Record Company are devastated by the news of the tragic passing of reggae legend Lucky Dube. Lucky was slain in an attempted hijacking in Rosettenville in Johannesburg last night, at approximately 8pm, whilst dropping off his children at a family members house.

Although Lucky attempted to escape the scene, he had been fatally wounded from the hijacker’s attempt to steal his motor vehicle, and he died almost instantly.
Senseless and random, the death of Lucky Dube leaves a great void in the music industry, as 25 years of music suddenly ends in tragedy.

South African born but globally revered, Lucky Dube was one of the country’s most toured and beloved artists ever. His music touched millions around the world, primarily through his 22 recorded albums - in Zulu, English and even Afrikaans - many of which have been record breakers with phenomenal sales from around the globe.

As a frontline artist in the reggae genre, Lucky's creativity and inventiveness kept growing.
Compelling in his musicianship and intriguing in his lyrical content, Lucky's sonic daring to take his genre to new heights never failed to amaze even the most ardent fans, whilst reigning in new devotees to his magic every day.
