There's a Comfort Inn just across the river in Philly. You could probably walk although I wouldn't recommend it.

DO NOT STAY IN CAMDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT WALK TO CAMDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not stray from the path!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can stay in NJ, like Marlton, Cherry Hill, that are safe yet close, but you will need to drive.
Do not take public transportation to or fro; do not rely on anyone but yourself to get there. Get directions from multiple sources even if you have a garmin/gps. Walk the walk, walk a straight line, b/c the natives aren't the only ones here with attitude, the po-po like to bust on hippies heads for a change of pace!!!!!!!!

JP, that Hilton that you stayed at when you were here for work a couple of years ago is the closest place in NJ to the venue. That's where the band usually stays as well. Farther down the road (also on Route 70) is a Clarion Hotel. If you call them, see if they still offer the "Good Neighbor Rate". That hotel is right in front of where I live. Unfortunately, I won't be in town at the time, so I won't be going to the show.

You can stay in Philly and take a ferry across the river to the venue. That way you get the hotels, restaurants, etc. of Philly (as others mentioned, you want to avoid Camden) and get a nice boat ride to boot. Look into it...

i've never stayed in either place, but agree with all on this site aviod camden. the ferry is probably your best bet. you can pre-game in philly ride across to the show, enjoy it as much as you want, ride back across the river and walk or cab it to a hotel. this also aviods the toll to leave NJ. philly has a lot of good places to stay and eat. it shouldn't be too hard to find one that fits your needs and price range.

feel the need to strongly discourage the ferry ride

you don't want that just about as much as you don't want to walk around Camden aimlessly at night.

rule of thumb RE camden, get in and get the **** out!!!

as such, a car, with lots of gas in it, primed and ready, don't linger, etc...

far and away the unfriendliest place to see a show

I've been to about 15-20 shows at Camden and I've never had a problem there - I think it gets a bad rap sometimes. Yes, the city is not for wandering - but why would you want to do that anyway. Have taken the ferry and it's a nice ride but never to a concert - the post-concert wait to catch the ferry back can be pretty long. I recommend a car, a designated driver, drink your beer out of cups to maintain a low profile, keep a good eye out if smoking, stay near the beautiful river scenery and you'll be fine. I've also lingered in the lots afterwards and as long as you aren't pounding beers all the cops do is try to move you along. I'll be at the lot early if the weather looks good - now I just want to watch the reports from the early shows to see what time Ratdog starts. Tix say 6pm but that seems early.
