....is like the best guitar player ever man....I mean the dude just freakin' smokes ya know?...last night at PNC he was doin' all this wacky stuff that was just like unreal man...like I don't think the dude is human at all, he's like some kinda alien or machine or somethin'....and the really weird thing is while he's doin' all this amazing stuff, he's just sorta standin' there...kinda like he's waitin' for a bus or sumthin'. Cool huh?

I really dig him!!!

Derek finds these notes that are ON the fretboard that are full of magic sparkle dust. I get it, but I don't get it. His ability and playing has to be an extension of something beyond mortal comprehension.

He is a gifted soul that cannot be explained. He brings emotion to playing that I have never seen. Like Duane he is a very powerful player (emotionally). He has the presence to bring the music to another level. There are points in the Beacon DVD that Gregg is looking at Derek or the band is and they are like WOW! I got a copy of 6-30-06 and I am speechless. The maturity of his playing is amazing!

He hits those notes on the fretboard that are certainly hard to find.

But a few times I've heard him hit notes that you just can't find on a guitar. Voodoo type stuff. For the life of me I can't find em.

The hair on my arms always stand on end. But a couple of times....just fell out

Derek has that effect on me, too, Sue. I don't think I've ever been to a dTb show and not cried. Numerous times!!!!!

You don't look THAT feminine Ross, but maybe if you grew a beard you would look more like Benjiman or myself.

I happened to be listening to ABB "Fox Box" on my drive home last night and came across Hoochie Coochie Man. I have not heard this in a while and I have not listened to FB (foxbox) because of all the Beacon 06 on my IPOD. Well I noticed there was a great blues duel between Warren and Derek in the begining. After a couple of tosses, Warren lays down this unbelievable blues riff/jam. The crowd screams, roars, and begs Derek to try and beat that. Derek comes in so soft, gentle and angelic, then glides into Sahib Terri. The place is absolutely silent!!! They are all in shock! This kid is _____________ing!!!!

Cute Ozzie!! Tears of joy is a beautiful thing. To be so overcome with his playin' that it moves your heart and soul! No other musician has ever done that to me.....EVER!!! As much as I LOVE Gregg and Warren and the rest for that matter! Only Derek has done that to me!! I'm amazed myself.

Never heard of this young man until I bought "Hittin' The Note." Extraordinary slide guitarist. Unbelievable talent. So far I have two DTB CDs (Soul Serenade, Joyful Noise).

His playing is unreal, that's for sure. And the feeling he invokes with those other-worldly notes he coaxes out of his guitar is, to me, a spiritual experience (interestingly, I note the little Budda statue on top of his amp, and the list on his website of what the band reads and listens to). To quote one of the boys as they walked out of one of their Fillmore shows in '71: "G-----n! It's just like church." Still is.

Derek's quiet demeanor and understatement on stage just emphasizes his playing all the more. In contrast, Duane was fiery on stage--not putting on a bull**** show, but just into the music with so much intensity. Derek has that intensity, too--it just shows up in a different way, that's all.

I'm pretty sure he's from outer space.
I'm trying to find someone else in the government who can verify, but haven't found the right agency/person yet.

Hey No1TorunWith, I know what you mean about that section before hoochie coochie on the fox box. the first time i heard that i was completely floored. i had to rewind and listen again, and again.

it's quite an amazing couple of minutes of derek playing by himself. cannot imagine what that musta felt like, standing on the fox stage, playing the riff of sahib while all around is the egyptian art deco stuff, and completely silencing a rather rabid audience. at 25/26 years old. geez... we are in store for so many more years of great music from him and the rest of this musical family.

A bunch of us were probably there - I know I was.
I also remember Warren Haynes just standing there too, with his eyes closed....
