I would have to say either Like A Rolling Stone or Little Wing. Both songs are excellent, much beloved, and have been covered by everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Zero to Warren Haynes to the Rolling Stones, and many more. Just from the longevity and timelessness of these songs, they are the best rock songs of the 20th century imo. What do you guys think?

The last century, or this one?

I'll assume you meant the last century. Like a Rolling Stone is a good pick. The two that usually top the classic rock lists in my area would be Freebird and Stairway to Heaven. I think both deserve their places at or near the top of any list. The problem with all three of those choices, though, is that they completely leave out the Beatles. Of course, while you could find many to agree that the Beatles were the greatest band of all time (or, so far), you'd have a hard time getting those same people to agree on what their greatest song was. Tough question, even acknowledging the fact that it's all personal tastes and opinions.

I don't even know that I even have a favorite song, to tell you the truth, though a good two-guitar Jessica would probably top my list more often than any other tune.

I hate ranking but... gotta love stairway, and great call w/ little wing. Also, I gotta say the entire Dark Side of the Moon, and you can't forget about In Memory of Elizabeth Reed!!

I hate listing and ranking as well but I think that even though the choices so far have been great ones, my vote might go to Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who...

Hard to pick just one as the best, but I'll say
All Along The Watchtower.

The entire century?...get a life....this goes for Ms .Love's loser husband also....making widows and orphan's and yet still growing admirers....sad...sad...sad...)

I gotta go with Dan on this one- Layla.
I remember being in DC in 1986- DC101 was doing a greatest song weekend and I was really gratified to hear Layla beat Stairway and the F-word.

Also . . .

Caryy On -CSN

I would have said Suite: Judy Blue Eyes but I'm not sure that can be justified as Rock.

To me, it sure as hell ain't "Stairway to Heaven" - but maybe "Satisfaction." Or anything that Little Richard did. Or maybe "She Loves You" - yeah, yeah, yeah!
