Many people believe the war on drugs (think marijuana for this post) has been a colossal failure. Considering the billions of dollars spent to no measurable avail and the thousands of human lives disrupted or destroyed by law enforcement for something much less harmful than the sanctioned killers alcohol and tobacco, they have a valid point.

But consider the perspective of those who wage the war, not the cops who follow the orders of their job (though their hand is in the till), but the big money interests/industries that include oil, paper, pharmaceutical, prisons, and more. If the vast proven potential of the marijuana plant was given free reign, it would cause serious harm if not destroy a number of corporations and industries. Legalizing weed is the last thing they want.

The king of the hill, establishment, status quo, whatever, will always want to remain so. They will do anything and everything to keep their money and power, such as spread lies, misinformation, propaganda, funnel their resources against the threat in every way. To hell with truth or “doing the right thing”, just keep the money coming. The established interests of whom I speak are by and large successful in their war on weed. Marijuana will never be legal on a federal level in this country as long as these interests retain power.

When I was in Girl Scouts, we always used hemp rope for tying up tarps, tents and the occasional troop leader. Toughest rope there is...

Come on, do we really need pot? I'd much rather take PCP over pot anyday.

It's a great read.

quote:
Oil-based plastics, the ones we are very familiar with, help ruin nature; they do not break down and will do great harm in the future.

Yep, and oil is a scarce commodity. But marijuana isn't.

Of course pot's not legal....wars are fought over oil, and the ability for the private sector, good friends of the government, to make millions of dollars rebuilding what your tax dollars destroy.

IF we started to use hemp seed oil for our plastics, demand would decrease and then where would we be?

thousands have grow boxes in the garage, or a fake dresser or ?. my favorite was a grow box about the size of a medium cooler that produced banzi plants...about a six month supply per crop rotation...ah, yankee ingenuity!

in several states the growth of sacrement is the #1 money crop...untaxed too, gov't fools!

a couple years ago esquire did an article on "suburban smokers", not unlike "weeds" on showtime.

"there are millions of us now,
it's not as if you were alone,
there are brothers everywhere,
waiting for a pull on that bone."

"mexico" jefferson airplane...

in the 25-50 age group, "conservative" (ha ha) estimates show 30-50% have smoked in the last 6 months. could be regular smokers (ahem, chronic) or taking a pull at a party...that's a lot of people, people.

A most EXCELLENT post, bluboy. As a frequent pro-marijuana poster on this chat room for the last several weeks, I welcome you to Forum and Anything Goes!! For more on my views, go to the "Stuck on Stupid" thread; you may have already read it. Or do a search for the "Drug Testing" thread, Denza has some excellent posts there, most glaring being the history of legal suppression of marijuana in this country.
I just printed out your link and am forwarding it to my anti-marijuana Uncle.
Thanks again, Rob

In the 1930s, people were very naive; even to the point of ignorance. The masses were like sheep waiting to be led by the few in power. They did not challenge authority. If the news was in print or on the radio, they believed it had to be true. They told their children and their children grew up to be the parents of the baby-boomers.

Great post & a real good read. I couldn't help but break out the attached quote from the story. I almost think you could take the 1930's and substitute 2000's ( maybe we're a little brighter as a nation but there's a lot of dim bulbs still out there , present company excluded of course ) and bring the story into today.
