Since the release of "Hittin' The Note", I think that Warren is the greatest Blues - Based guitarists of the last 14 years....

He can play everything, with enormous "STYLE", from Blues-Rock (Mother Earth; Woman Across The River) to more Hard-Rock tunes (Blind Man In The Dark); From Great Slide (I LOVE HIS VERSION OF "LOOK OVER YONDERS WALL") to Jazzy tracks (Birth Of The Mule).

You know, since SRV, many players starded to play like him.........But Warren........Warren is different!

I think in terms of diversity and originality, Warren is the best. But I'm biased, and I also haven't heard everybody. Off the top of my head, I actually can't really think of many people who come close, but I'm sure there are a lot. Speaking of which, has anybody listened to Melvin Taylor? He's unbelievable. I like him a lot.

That's funny, I feel like with Mule he's become pretty predictable and his licks are all the same. With the ABB I feel he lets his jazzy side out, he's able to go to lots of different places, especially during the instrumentals. Granted, he does use many of the same licks, but they always fit!

I would say that as well, but as a blues-based guitarist, I would put Warren over Derek. Derek has more jazz in him.

Jeff Beck is a superior to Warren and Derek together on slide guitar. Even blues fret work Warren is still no match for Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck.

There is no "best" guitarist, just your favorite.

I like em all as long as they play with some soul and some taste.

"El Becko" took the slide so rarely that it's impossible to me believe this!

Eric Clapton (another favorite) maybe superior to Warren only for the "BLUES SOUND"...

But in general........Warren is more and more complex than Eric.....

And over the past 14 years Warren beats EC in a cinch.

One must see Jeff Beck live to appreciate what that man can do while playing slide guitar. It is light years ahead of what anyone including Duane Allman was ever able to pull off.Concerning Waren and Ec I heard the same argument about Doyle Bramhall II and EC schooled that young man most outright the last time I saw Clapton play.

I'm nor arguing that Warren is a better guitarist than EC, although I guess I probably could. I'm arguing that over the past 14 years, as a blues-based guitarist, Warren is more relevant and has put out better stuff. It's a close one with Unplugged and From the Cradle, but I would put Warren a step ahead with the ABB records, the first Mule album especially, and the various tributes.

I'm a great fan of Jeff & Eric.....
Now, In the first '70's Duane Allman's slide works was 100 step ahead of Beck....(That, I remember, RARELY USED A SLIDE GUITAR).
Concerning Clapton...........PROBABLY, IN TERMS OF "BLUES" he's better than Warren, but IN TERMS OF SKILLS, FOR WHAT WE CAN HEARD, WARREN IS FROM THE MOON!!

Of course we are here to speak about "our opinions"..........I don't want to criticize anyone...............

I think that the "BIRDS" we can easily hear on "BECK" album, comes from certain things Duane used to do on "MOUNTAIN JAM"...............

Clapton sucks. He's sucked for a long time too. He's gotta hang up the towel and smoke a joint or something.

Sucked for a long time? I don't know about that. He may be essentially done as a live act and is now more of a nostalgia act when he tours, but he still makes good albums. I enjoyed Reptile. Me & Mr. Johnson was a bit more esoteric. But From the Cradle and Unplugged are classic albums.

Warren is the best blues-rock guitar since SRV.

Jeff Beck ?? He' s dead since 1.987 when Stevie knocked out him.
And it was the first Stevie's tour after his drugs rehabilitation !!!

I've never considered Jeff Beck a "Blues" guitarist....

Jeff is one of my Idols, he influenced a lot of guitarists, from Jimmy Page to Joe Satriani and, yes also Duane!

But I consider him for his genius, for his "MIND".....

But onestly in the last 14 years he recorded Just Good Albums like "You Had It Coming" and the most recently "JEFF"..........anyway nothin' special....

Warren's body of work over that time period certainly is impressive! I think it is very hard to pin the label of greatest on one individual. Is Warren consistently very good? Yes, of course, I don't think anyone would dispute that. I think that you do have to look at all of the talent Warren has benefitted from playing beside during the last 14-15 years.

Dickey Betts, Jimmy Herring, Derek Trucks, Bob Weir, Allen Woody, Oteil Burbridge, Phil Lesh etc... I am sure I am forgetting many others. He has made them better and vice versa. I think they are all pretty damn great!
