considering some of the threads recently, i thought I'd share some thoughts from seeing TTB at the Met on Tuesday.

- this band is tight, tight, tight. whether or not you like their music or not, there is no denying that this is a seasoned band that has rehearsed hard.
- everyone gets a chance to shine. every soloist stepped up. two mini drum solos. back up singers move up to take lead vocals on multiple songs.
- the venue is very cool. i don't recommend sitting in the way back first floor. but being newly renovated, there were so many positives from sound, to staff, to no lines at the bar/restrooms.

playing-wise:
- derek trucks is a grandmaster of the electric guitar. he knows his instrument every which way, up, down, sideways and backwards. he can do anything he wants and in a way that is different and unique from song to song. a master of volume, comping, tension and tone. he's close to perfect.
- new keyboardist is very good, but i thought the new bassist was either a little disinterested/going through the motions or is just there to lay down the low end without fanfare.

looking forward to the beacon run this october.

Second time at the Met since it recently opened - I agree nice venue with good sound.
Very good show. Like others have said, their studio versions of songs are very streamlined - see the same songs live and the creativity of the band comes alive.
Missed Kofi. Loved the way his flute blended with Derek. Maybe in the future they can re-introduce that sound.
Loved that Mike got a lot of opportunities. Mike solo and Susan solo are good but when they duet they're great.
For me, Anyday was the best I've seen from them.
I left the show reminded that in my lifetime I only have a finite number of chances to see Derek live and that whenever possible I need to go see him perform.

Listened to parts of that show today - sounds like a hot one!

I get what you're saying. Of course, it wasn't just the flute - it was the guy playing it that made it so special.
