Oteil! I am sure more will be added, as this lineup is much smaller than last year. I want Herring! On sale Fri 10-5, but you'll probably come out better paying at the door (not close to sold out last year).

*** Please bring 2 cans of food for Atlanta Community Food Bank
A special holiday gathering featuring Papa Mali, Oteil Burbridge, Larry Keel, Col. Bruce Hampton Ret, The Mosier Brothers, Ike Stubblefield, Jeff Sipe, Count M'Butu, Grant Green Jr., and Gaurav Malhotra.

Sounds like a great show! Any idea what band or format Oteil will be playing in? A Peacemakers reunion would be a great Christmas present ... to ME!

No idea yet Rusty, but w/ the Col, Sipe and Oteil, we have 3/4 of Aquarium Rescue Unit already. Just need native Herring to get to 100%.

Sounds like a good time! Besides all the "usual suspects" from the Atlanta music scene, I'm happy to see Papa Mali in the mix.

I didn't make it last year, but I might have to make this happen this year.

An ARU reunion even better Christmas present to me.

I went to a benefit show a few years back in Atlanta around Christmas-time (possibly Thanksgiving) that was held at a warehouse on a soundstage. It was essentially rehearsal space. They didn't have sufficient parking, or really space inside for the 50 or 100 people that were there in the audience. But the music that evening was a 1-off band featuring Oteil, Sipe, Ike Stubblefield, Grant Green Jr. and perhaps 1 or 2 others. Mostly, if not entirely, instrumental music. But it wasn't just aimless noodling where they picked a key and went from there. Not sure they actually rehearsed, but they did plan ahead and had songs down and some standards. They played an hour or so. Very good. Would love to see/hear a repeat of that.

Jimmy Hall and Diane Durett have been added to the lineup. See you there!

Mmmmm. Me loves me some Fox Bros BBQ. It's been ages since I've gotten myself there after moving out of the city. They had a big, old-growth hardwood tree fall through the restaurant several weeks back. I guess they've managed to rebuild (or that's the heated giant "tent" they're talking about).

Shaping up to be a swell time indeed on Sunday.

Is Fox Bros that good? I was going to meet some folks for a bite at Porter at 5; you are welcome to join us there.

Really great! Started at 7 and I left early at 1130, so I missed the Colonel. The three sets I saw had as a base Deep Blue Sun, a local Deadish band, then the Moser Bros, a bluegrassy band, then Papa Mali, a guitarist who plays w/ Kreutzman's 7 Walkers.

Oteil played almost the whole time, as did Yonrico, Jeff Sipe and the Count, so the rythym was there in huge doses! Highlights were Mosers' Gentle on My Mind and a Doc Watson tribute, Mali's instrumental Ode to Billy Joe and a three song Dead set of Bertha, Mr Charlie and Lovelight.

Yonrico was crazy good and really into it; MVP to him. Weirdest was the Count singing Willie's You are Always on My Mind (I had never see him stand, let alone sing!). Jimmy Hall added sax some during the evening and did a rockin' Silent Night and keep on Smilin' where our own MissTerry added backup vocals.

Better than last yr by a mile and I sure wished Buppalo could have been there. One of my top 5 shows for the year, and I missed some.

I got there late but enjoyed what I did see. I really hated to miss Deep Blue Sun, they are friends of mine and I've known the bass player Ben Hernandez for 20 years. Wow, I'm old

I really enjoyed the Lovelight with Papa Mali, which featured plenty of solos for everyone. Oteil, Count Mbutu, Jeff Sipe, and Ike Stubblefield--put that band on the road! Best rhythm section you could ever want. Whether it was Jimmy Hall or Papa Mali or Colonel Bruce, that core band was cooking on a high level all night long.

It's a shame you missed the Colonel Brock, although I was bummed that he only played 3 songs, and Bruce didn't play guitar, only sang. They did a solid version of Yield Not To Temptation, a pretty awesome version of Fixin' To Die, and THE BEST DAMN VERSION OF SPACE IS THE PLACE I'VE EVER HEARD! Oh my goodness, that was something. It sounded like the mothership was landing in the Variety, and I was ready to get on board

For the encore, everybody got on stage for The Weight and May The Circle Be Unbroken. My buddy Ben got to sing the "Crazy Chester" verse in The Weight and I was proud of him. He done good! They might have played another song after that but I left after Circle, which was appropriate and moving and a good way to end the show, at least for me.

Thanks for the recording Rob. Sorry I missed the Col, but when Papa did Lovelight, and there was no Col, I figured he was sick. Heard later that he tried to go out for that song and said "I know that one." He sure does!
