glad he's still around, so many of the great reggae stars have passed.

love The Harder They Come!!!!!!! what a great record (i have a mint copy of this on wax, it's smokin! amazon lists a deluxe two cd release also). haven't seen the movie yet though...

he played MusicMidtown several years ago, and it was one rightous set. He sat down out front midway thru with a drum, and played almost solo during Rivers of Baybylon. the 10 minute version stopped time for me, and i literally felt my mind leave my body, with me looking down on myself and all the others grooving. it was something else.

carry that torch jimmy, i too have many rivers to cross

[edit: perusing the amazon review for the 1990 cd release, i found this VERY interesting snippet:

on 3/16/07 B.Borgerson writes:
although as one other reviewer noted, some tracks do sound "Americanized." No surprise. "Many Rivers to Cross" and "Sitting in Limbo" were recorded with the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in Alabama. This wasn't documented at the time, 1972 (I learned it when I interviewed the MSRS in 1979) because apparently Cliff did not have the proper immigration papers to "work" in the USA when Chris Blackwell decided to bring him up for the quick sessions.

jimmy cliff in Muscle Shoals layin it down!!!! that musta been a sight in 1972!!! somebody here w/ connections to those guys needs to ask about this. bigann, check your PM's.]

Got to shake the man's hand and thank him for all the great music in 2000, 25 years after my first Jimmy Cliff album.
